Employment
Adult learning and support is part of the Starting Well Service delivered from Children’s Centres. Contact your local centre for more information.
Apprenticeships
The Starting Well Service offer opportunities for you to join the team as an apprentice. Apprenticeships combine practical training in a job with study. They are designed to help you to gain hands on experience within an industry and learn new practical skills, while earning a qualification and receiving a wage. They take one to five years to complete and are open to anyone over the age of 16, who is not enrolled in full-time education. As an apprentice you will work alongside experienced staff; gain job-specific skills; earn a wage and get holiday pay; get time for study related to your role (usually one day a week).
More information about apprenticeships is available on the Gov.UK website.
Volunteering
Breastfeeding peer support volunteers work with new mums to positively influence the uptake of breastfeeding and initiation rates. They help increase breastfeeding knowledge and the skills of women and their families in the local community. They promote mother to mother support and increase the percentage of babies being breastfed at six months. A breastfeeding peer supporter gives support and information to mothers who wish to breastfeed their babies. They mainly help mothers of healthy full term babies in their local clinics and local maternity unit with basic breastfeeding management when needed.
