Traffic regulation orders

A Traffic Regulation Order (TROs) is a legal document that allows local authorities to introduce restrictions on parking, speed, and other vehicle movements.

Temporary Traffic Regulation Orders

Temporary Traffic Regulation Orders (TTRO) cover restrictions needed for roadworks special events to allow for these to take place safely. Our current notices can be viewed on our current notices page.

Permanent Traffic Regulation Orders

Permanent Traffic Regulation orders are used to improve the safe movements of traffic and improve safety for all road users. This can include parking restrictions, speed limits and access restrictions.

Our current parking traffic regulation orders can be viewed on our interactive map

This map shows our current parking restrictions that are already in place or being advertised as a new or amendment proposal.

You can also give comments or objections to specific Traffic Regulation Orders on our portal.

Traffic Regulation Order process

Prior to the formal legal process to introduce or change any restrictions, we would carry out a full assessment to determine whether any changes are required and would resolve the problem raised or help improve road safety.

The process includes:

  • informal consultation with elected Members, parish/town councillors and Cheshire Police
  • consultation with residents and business
  • once approved, advertising the Traffic Regulation order for three weeks
  • if no objections, a public notice would be made to bring in the new Traffic Regulation Order
  • if objections are received, these would be considered and decision would be made whether to proceed
