Raising Aspirations
Winsford children show their ambition
Young students in the town are being inspired to get the skills and qualifications they need for a great future
Seeds of career ambitions are being planted in the minds of Winsford’s schoolchildren through Winsford Whole Place's Raising Aspirations project that sees children exploring the real world of work.
Pupils have been learning in school about what it is like to work in different jobs. They have also had the chance to visit real workplaces to speak to professionals and find out more about the jobs adults do.
Experiences
Teacher and Head of 6th Form at Oaklands School, Andy Robinson, said: "This has given many of our students ideas and aspirations for the future."
Rebecca Malone, whose son Connor is in Year 5, added; “My son found the visit very interesting and it has encouraged him to think about all the possible jobs and opportunities which he might enjoy in the future."
Local children have, so far, visited The Hut Group, a leading health, beauty, fitness and lifestyle company, Park Royal Hotel, and Warrington and Vale Royal College to find out how to get the right qualifications for the future.
Hester Pownall, HR Manger for Park Royal Hotel, said: "Once they turn 16, we hope to see many of them join us for part time jobs and apprenticeship programmes."
Children also visited The University of Chester to explore what advanced learning would be like and inspire them to pursue a university education.
More eye-opening visits are planned including Manchester Airport and Morrisons factory, which is offering the youngsters career support and the chance to experience all areas of the business.
