Street lighting and traffic lights
Street lights
We maintain 50,000 street lighting assets including street lighting lanterns, illuminated bollards and signs. We look after most street lights, illuminated signs and traffic sign bollards on adopted roads in the borough.
We carry out a routine inspection of our lights every six years by area. Our inspections pick up any defects that are structurally or electrically unsafe.
If your property is managed by a Housing associations, please report any lighting issue to them
- For Housing – 0300 123 5522
- Muir Housing - 0300 123 1222
- Weaver Vale Housing Trust – 0300 303 9848
If your property is on a new estate, the housing developer will be responsible for any street lighting issues until we adopt these roads. Please report directly to them any issues with their lighting.
We do not maintain street lights on private roads or on Motorway and major trunk roads. For street lighting faults on Motorways and major trunk roads (A55, A483, A550, A494) please contact National Highways.
Report a street light issue
Please contact us if:
- the lantern is hanging down
- the column door is missing or wires are exposed
- the column is leaning
- the column has been hit in a road traffic collision
If possible, it would be really helpful if you could provide the column number located on the lamp post or a nearby house number or landmark when reporting an issue.
