Road safety enforcement
Overview
Cheshire Constabulary is responsible for all moving traffic offences such as speeding, drink driving and the use of mobile phones. Cheshire Constabulary is a key partner in the Cheshire Road Safety Group and manages the enforcement activity at speed and red light camera sites. Local speed enforcement activity has a significant role in reducing casualties and assists the Community Speed Management initiative.
We maintain close contact with Cheshire Constabulary to help deliver targeted enforcement programmes that contribute to the local casualty reduction strategy. Intelligence and information is shared to ensure consistency of approach and co-ordinate educational and enforcement campaigns.
Speed and red light cameras
Speed and red-light cameras are managed by the Cheshire Road Safety Group (CRSG), this is a partnership between Cheshire Police, Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service, National Highways, and the four local authorities of Cheshire West and Chester, Cheshire East, Warrington, and Halton.
Their main criterion for cameras is based on the number of collisions resulting in fatal or serious injuries because of speeding or running red lights.
We don't take direct requests from the public for speed cameras. We undertake annual analysis of injury collision data to identify sites suitable for speed and red-light cameras.
You can find out about existing speed cameras and red-light cameras at the Cheshire Road Safety Group website.
