Northwich Townscape Heritage
The Northwich Townscape Heritage Project commenced in 2015 when the Council was successful in securing funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
The aim of the project is to:
- Deliver improvements to the front elevations of the unique traditional timber-framed buildings in Witton Street and High Street in Northwich town centre, many of which are locally listed, including restoring any specific heritage features that have been lost.
- Promote the heritage and the history of the buildings to residents, visitors and businesses.
The project came to a close on 31 January 2023.
14 buildings have received capital grants facilitating restoration works.
There have also been a series of non-capital projects and initiatives that have taken place to promote the heritage of the town including:
- an education programme for local schools
- numerous stalls, exhibitions, community events and walking tours
- a website providing information photographs and articles
- a Living Memories project; and
- a Building Maintenance Guide
