Care and Accommodation Options

Care Homes

Nursing and Residential Care

Care Homes provide round the clock care and support and accommodation, for older people who have explored all other options to remain living independently.

There are two types of care home:

  • Residential Care Homes; homes that provide living accommodation, meals and help with personal care
  • Nursing Homes; who also provide nursing care to help people with medical needs.

Through services such as Extra Care Housing and Care at Home, residents within Cheshire West and Chester will be supported to remain living at home for as long as possible. When a person’s needs trigger into residential or nursing care, we will complete a Care Act Assessment to being the process of identifying a permanent care home.

Nursing Homes

Care Homes with nursing provide the same personal care as care homes but with fully-trained nursing staff on duty 24-hours a day. If you think you may need nursing care in a home, you will need to have been in touch with adult social care. If you are in hospital you can request these services from hospital with the hospital social work team, or hospital staff may arrange for you to discuss your needs with the team so that a safe plan can be put in place for your to leave hospital. If you are not in hospital you can request Adult Social Care Services.

You will be fully involved in planning your care needs. If a care home providing nursing care is the best solution for you, your social work team can point you to the information to help you find a home which meets your care and nursing requirements.
