Council's coronation tribute in Grosvenor Park
The Council's StreetCare team has completed this year's summer floral displays in Chester’s Grosvenor Park - a stunning tribute to celebrate the Coronation of Their Majesties King Charles III and The Queen Consort.
This year’s theme includes an impressive wicker sculpture of a crown, along with a Royal guard and spitfire plane.
The Council’s Environmental Commissioning team worked on the project with local artist Sarah Gallagher-Hayes, who runs her own company, Twigtwisters.
The sculptures are complemented by colourful planting, including Golden Marigolds in the largest bed. This summer plant varieties within formal bedding schemes have been changed to tie in with the Council’s Pollinator Strategy.
Varieties with little or no benefit environmentally have been replaced with varieties known to be good pollinators such as Zinnia and Rudbeckia. They will create a beautiful and colourful display, while also helping bees, butterflies and other fauna.
The Throne alongside the displays which was previously in place for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth’s platinum jubilee will be transformed into a gold throne to celebrate this month’s coronation. Visitors will be invited to a photo for social media, using the hashtags #ParkRoyality and #Grosvenor Park.
Public parks have played a key part in the celebration and the commemoration of royal events since the Victorian Era.
Grosvenor Park, as one of the finest and most complete examples of Victorian parks in the North West of England, is a fitting location for the Council’s royal tribute.
