Passengers using Hackney Carriage and Private Hire vehicles should:

• always use a licensed vehicle
• know that licensed drivers must wear their licence badge, which includes a photograph and expiry date
• find out where the nearby Hackney Carriage ranks are
• try to pre-book your journey home through a licensed operator or Hackney Carriage owner and ask what the fare will be
• ask if there is a call back service so you can be contacted when your vehicle has arrived and confirm your booking with the driver when they arrive
• never get into a private hire vehicle you have not pre-booked as it will not be insured to carry you and may not be licensed
• make a note of the vehicle or drivers licence number
• always make sure you have enough money for your journey
• ensure your mobile is fully charged
• let friends know when you are going home
