Mobile Library Service consultation

This consultation is now closed.

Thank you to everyone who took part in the consultation. We have prepared a report that summarises the feedback received and actions to be taken as a result of the consultation.

The feedback has been considered by senior managers. As a result, the Council's new electric mobile library vehicle went into service on 24 July 2023. We believe it is the first electric mobile library in the country and along with solar panels and LED lighting, will contribute to the Council's aim to be carbon neutral by 2030. The vehicle is fully accessible and includes a hearing loop. Other improvements include an awning for summer activities and onboard Wi-Fi and digital access for customers.

Following consultation feedback the following actions were taken:

  • Proposed new stops, times and dates have been implemented.
  • Stops proposed to be withdrawn have been removed, with the exception of Backford Church due to safety concerns.
  • Two stops have been renamed for accuracy.
  • New activities have been added to one of our stops and we are exploring options to do this at other stops.
  • Promotion of the new mobile library service has been enhanced online and by using flyers and posters.
  • A commitment has been made to review the stops every six months, with the first in January 2024.
