Alcohol Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) consultation

This consultation has now closed.

Thank you to everyone who took part. The findings report is now available:

The findings were discussed by Cabinet on Wednesday 18 October 2023, where the decision was made to renew the PSPO for the consumption of alcohol in a public place for a further period of three years.

Information about the Cabinet meeting is available online.

Background

In October 2014 the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014 (the Act) introduced powers to tackle anti-social behaviour (ASB), including the power to make Public Space Protection Orders (PSPOs).

PSPOs can be used to regulate activities in public places that can have a detrimental effect on the local community. They can help by giving local councils and local police additional powers to tackle ASB in specified locations.

The existing PSPO powers relating to the consumption of alcohol in a public place are due to expire in October 2023. In order to renew the PSPO for another three years, the Council is required to carry out a review and we would like to hear your views on the measures.

Further information about the PSPO is available in our consultation summary:
