Metals
Metals are essential, versatile and can be used in a number of ways. Cars, airplanes, ships and railways are all made out of metal. The best thing about metal recycling is that metal can be recycled over and over again and still be as good as when it was first moulded. The most common recyclable metals include aluminium and steel.
A good reason to recycle metal is to preserve our natural resources. Mining tends to deplete the natural resources we have so recycling metal over and over is beneficial to our environment. By recycling we can stop causing further damage to the ozone layer and tackle global warming. Did you know that aluminium can be recycled using less than five percent of the energy used to make the original product?
We provide residents with a simple recycling system where materials are separated at home and at the kerbside. This reduces the amount of contamination going into the recycling process.
Contamination happens when non-recyclable items are mixed in with recyclables items or when recyclable items are placed in the wrong recycling bins.
More information about what metals can be recycled at the kerbside can be found on our waste and recycling page.
