Get help to take your bins out
Residents who experience difficulties in placing their bins and containers out for collection and do not have anyone to assist them can request help. We can only collect bins and containers from one location. We are unable to collect bins and containers that are presented in multiple locations (example. domestic bins at the front and garden bins at the back).
Before you apply
Your responsibilities
We reserve the right to review the application at any time, and request supporting documents to evidence your right to the service. Checks can be carried out in person or by telephone. It is important that contact details are provided at all times. Your request for an assisted collection may result in a visit to your property from an officer
To be eligible, all residents of a household must be unable to place bins and containers out at the kerbside.
What happens next?
If your application is approved
When applications are approved, the assistance service will commence on the normal scheduled collection day usually one week after the date of request.
For an assisted collection to take place, all bins and containers must be left visible and accessible for collection in an agreed location by 6am on collection day. Containers are usually collected from 7am onwards but could be collected as early as 6am if extreme weather such as high temperatures or storms are expected.
Please also ensure that:
- any gates are unlocked
- there are no pets loose in your garden or yard
- we can gain access to your bins and/or containers – for example they’re not blocked in by a closely-parked car
- the bins and containers are not too heavy where they cannot be moved
You will stop receiving assisted collections at the end of your agreed timeframe which has been accepted on your application.
If your application is unsuccessful
If your application is unsuccessful you must place your bins and containers out at the edge of the property for collection by 6am on collection day. Containers are usually collected from 7am onwards but could be collected as early as 6am if extreme weather such as high temperatures or storms are expected.
