Changes to disposal of Waste Upholstered Domestic seating (WUDs)
From 6 January 2025 this site will not be accepting Waste Upholstered Domestic seating (WUDs) including sofas, armchairs, upholstered dining chairs and beanbags.
These items often contain Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs). Pops are chemical substances often used as fire retardants which need to be handled and disposed of in a special way to ensure they are not released into the environment and prevent contamination of other waste
These items require a separate designated skip. Due to limited space, we will no longer be able to accept these items at this site
Waste upholstered domestic seating will be accepted at Chester, Ellesmere Port and Winsford recycling centres.

Safety and restrictions
- we do not accept asbestos, gas cylinders/bottles or tyres
- trailers over 2.5m in length are not permitted
- vehicles above 3.5 tonnes gross vehicle weight are not permitted to use in our recycling centres
- sites may close earlier if dark
- you cannot take waste onto the site by foot.
Do you need a permit?
Yes, a residents permit is required if you want to use Neston recycling centre. This is because it is very close to the border with another council. We monitor visits using automatic number plate recognition (ANPR), mystery shoppers and body camera technology.
You can visit this site using a hired van as long as you provide proof of residency and your residents permit.
Reuse shops
To maximise reuse, we now have a shop at Neston. Items for sale include bric-a brac and some furniture. This will increase the amount of waste reused which is preferable to both recycling and waste disposal.
We currently do not accept or sell small electrical items, car seats and helmets as these require safety testing and there is no facility for this on site.
We only take cash payments for reuse items at this site.
