VE Day and VJ Day 80
2025 will mark the 80th anniversaries of VE Day and VJ Day on 8 May and 15 August.
It is an opportunity for the nation to come together to honour and pay tribute to the Second World War generation from across the UK and Commonwealth, through a series of national and local events and activities.

8 May - 5.30pm - A Service of Thanksgiving at Chester Cathedral
8 May - 8.30pm - Concert at Chester Town Hall Square, Northgate Street, Chester
8 May - 9.30pm - Lighting of the Beacon of Peace outside Chester Town Hall

Lighting of a Beacon with a preceding event at Comberbach Memorial Hall with a band, light refreshments, and display of memorabilia.
Thursday 8th May 2025
9am - Raising the VE Day Flag at St Laurence Church, Church Road, Frodsham, WA6 7DY
6.30pm - St Laurence Church Bells will ring out
9pm - Remembering VE Day at Frodsham War Memorial, Overton Hill, Frodsham, WA6 7QY followed by lighting of the beacon at 9.30pm. The event will finish with a rendition of "I Vow to Thee My Country"

Friday 9 May 2025 - 11.30am - Vicars Cross Community Centre
Celebrate this historic event with a light buffet and fabulous entertainment with a good old fashioned sing-a-long of music from yesteryear.
