Westminster Park
Westminster Park has been awarded Green Flag status, a prestigious award which is the national benchmark for parks and open spaces. This indicates that the park has fulfilled the judging criteria and is a safe, welcoming and well maintained park offering a range of recreational and leisure opportunities for people of all ages.
Leased by us from the Duke of Westminster since 1946, this key park in Chester is enjoyed “for the purposes of a public park and recreation ground” by residents and visitors to the borough alike for a range of activities.

Recent improvements
The most recent improvement to the park was the installation of an outdoor gym, two running circuits and picnic benches, a £53,000 Fields in Trust project funded by ourselves and WREN. Park users can now enjoy the opportunity to keep fit in the beautiful natural surroundings of the park.
In 2011 a new pavilion was built between the bowling greens and the croquet lawn. The project was funded by us with a donation from the Croquet Association and the pavilion now acts as a base for Westminster Park Bowling Club, Saltney Bowling Club and Chester Croquet Club.
The bowling greens are available for casual use when they are not in use for club meetings and fixtures. Further details are available from Rose Millington on telephone number 0151 356 6992. For further details on costs for pitch and green hire and availability are also available on this number.
There is no need to book to use the golf course and there are no membership fees, you simply pay when you turn up. Clubs can be hired and are available for men, women and children.
The golf course is now operated by Brio Leisure, along with other community facilities previously operated by us.

Exploring further afield
The Meadows is a patchwork of grassland and wetlands by the sides of Chester’s River Dee in the heart of the city centre. Summer grazed by cattle to provide the perfect habitat for a range of flora and fauna, it is a popular area for wildlife lovers. Look out for Greenfinch and Linnets feeding in the meadows, whilst in the wetlands, frogs and Smooth newts can be spotted.
