The Meadows
The Meadows is a patchwork of grassland and wetlands by the sides of Chester’s River Dee in the heart of the city centre. Summer grazed by cattle to provide the perfect habitat for a range of flora and fauna, it is a popular area for wildlife lovers. Look out for Greenfinch and Linnets feeding in the meadows, whilst in the wetlands, frogs and Smooth newts can be spotted.
Ideally situated by the river, it’s a great location in which to relax and watch the boats on regatta days. The Meadows are supported by a keen volunteer group; Friends of the Meadows who hold regular meetings and circulate a newsletter with updates on events.

Parking and access
There is no official parking at The Meadows.
There are four pedestrian access points; one along the footpath by the suspension bridge, another from bottoms lane, one from the land opposite the sailing club and the main entrance through lower park road.
The Meadows is suitable for users with pushchairs and wheelchairs. It is reasonably level; however due to the purposely unmanaged nature of the site there are no sealed routes across the site.
Exploring further afield
The Meadows is situated just across the river from Grosvenor Park, a Victorian Ornamental Park featuring sweeping lawns and beautiful formal gardens which is the venue for a varied assortment of activities and events throughout the year.
