COVID-19 reflections - artist brief
The Council has started to implement a programme of reflection on the COVID-19 pandemic, which will provide communities with spaces to reflect and opportunities to share their experiences.
The first phase of the programme will see COVID-19 reflection areas created in parks across the borough, involving a reflective tree planting and associated landscape design.
The second phase includes a cultural programme, with a number of projects that will work closely with communities across the borough to find out how they would like to record their own reflections and see these presented.
We would like to appoint an experienced artist to work with residents from the summer onwards.
Artist brief for a socially engaged artist commission
An outcome of the COVID-19 pandemic has been the importance of community-led responses that draw upon local knowledge and resources, and build capacity and channels of interconnectedness between government, community organisations and the public.
Cheshire West and Chester recognise the importance of communities, culture and belonging and wish to explore new and different perspectives which reflect community responses to COVID-19 in the Borough as part of a cultural programme.
We are calling out for a socially engaged artist to develop and deliver a project to articulate responses that encourage social interaction and opportunities to enable deeper community engagement and creativity. The area of focus for this artist commission is around societal shift - things have had to be delivered different and groups have adapted to meet their service for users or individual’s needs. This in turn has changed attitudes and ways of working.
