Carriageway structural and resurfacing works

Structural and resurfacing works required where the site has deteriorated significantly to require significant repair.

The chosen method of repair depends on many factors assessed by site visits, carbon aspects and value for money and longevity of the proposals.

Carriageway resurfacing

This process is where the old deteriorated existing surface is planed off and replaced with new surface material. Each site is assessed to see what depth on new construction is required and which material is most suited and applicable for that site. New products are always coming on the market and many now are being produced with the aim of reducing the carbon footprint e.g. warm or cold mixes, use of recycled materials within mixes etc.

Carriageway recycling (structural recycling)

Retread

This process involves breaking down or planning off the existing road surface then crushing/re-grading the material before mixing with new emulsions to form a newly refreshed material ready for re-laying back on the site. Once the material has been laid and rolled in to close any surface voids, a surface dressing is then applied to seal the new surface.

Recycol

This is an innovative ‘Colas’ product recycling process which happens all on site in one single process. The existing surface material is planed off and sent into the plant which follows the planer to crush the material and into a ‘mixer’ apply emulsions and water and mix altogether. This then pushes the material into a paver machine following the mixier and it is then laid and rolled in onsite to form a new surface or binder course. Sometimes this is then overlayed to further seal the recycled material surface.

Carriageway reconstruction

This is where the whole carriageway has deteriorated that it requires deep excavation and new reconstructed carriageway to be formed.
