Work of the ECR team
As a Council we work with the local community, schools, businesses, our partners and any other organisations to ensure we build a community in which people both want and are able to live both now and in the future. This means reviewing:
- how we deliver our services
- how we use natural resources such as paper, office equipment, plastics and other materials
- how we buy materials and equipment
- how much waste we are throwing away
- how much water we use
- how much energy we use in our buildings and in travelling between offices as well as to and from work
You can watch a film that shows what we are doing to promote sustainability on the our YouTube channel.
Where to find help
Sustainability commitment
Our Sustainability Commitment was written in 2009 when we were formed. Its purpose is to ensure that we lead by example, by putting sustainability at the heart of decision making and service delivery.
Internal energy management
We are looking to improve the effective management of the energy we use. We are creating a streamlined system of data management and energy security to comply with current legislation. The associated reduction in our carbon dioxide emissions will reduce the authorities own contribution to climate change. Investigations into renewable energy generation across Cheshire West and Chester are also being undertaken to provide clean power for service delivery and schools.
Climate Local
This is a national campaign from the Local Government Association aimed to drive, inspire and support council action on climate change. We signed up to Climate Local in October 2012 and produced our Action Plan in December 2013.
Sustainability Commission
We established the Sustainability Commission to gain a better understanding of what it would mean to undertake a carbon neutral approach to the delivery of services and activities across the Borough. To examine the issues and implications of this fundamental approach and to investigate future opportunities, a Commission of Inquiry was proposed.
