Community energy youth champions
Cheshire West and Chester Council is keen to engage young people in energy issues, and particularly involve them in Community Energy projects. We are working directly with the National Energy Foundation to achieve this.
The National Energy Foundation (NEF) became an Approved Activity Provider for the Duke of Edinburgh Award in February 2015. Their project ‘Energy Envoys’ launched in September 2015, and Duke of Edinburgh participants across the country are now planning and delivering energy projects in the community as part of the volunteering section of the award.
Cheshire West and Chester Council have been working with NEF to promote this opportunity locally. The Council was keen to link Energy Envoys to our local Community Energy work, encouraging young people to focus on community renewables for their project.
Other ways to get involved
Eco Schools is an international award programme that guides schools on their sustainable journey, providing a framework to help embed these principles into the heart of school life. In the UK, the programme is administered by Keep Britain Tidy.
