Fly tipping

Your streets banner

Fly tipping is when someone dumps waste on land illegally. We are responsible for the removal of fly tipping on public owned land. This waste is usually general household rubbish, larger items e.g. fridges, mattresses or commercial/trade waste.

How you can help

If you have seen anyone fly tipping or you have come across any, try and give us as much information as possible. If we have this information it means we can investigate it sooner.

  • the day, date and time
  • what was left and how much
  • if you saw the people who did it, how many were there and what they looked like
  • if any vehicles were involved, the make, colour and registration number

Do not touch or remove the waste as materials may be dangerous or hazardous.

Report fly tipping

What happens next?

We aim to clear fly tipping within five to ten working days. This may take longer if we need to investigate it further. We will try to prosecute if we can identify who left the waste as its a criminal offence under the Environmental Protection Act 1990.

Other ways to remove waste

If you are struggling to get rid of your waste you can:

Arrange for a bulky collection
  • visit one of our household waste and recycling centres (tip)
  • get someone to take your waste away for you (for example a builder or waste removal service) make sure that they are a registered waste carrier as you are responsible for making sure your waste is disposed of correctly.
