Universal Credit
What does it replace?
Universal Credit replaces benefits including:
- Income Support
- Job Seekers Allowance (Income Related)
- Employment Allowance (Income Related)
- Tax Credits
- Housing Benefit.
If you or your partner are of working age and want to make a new claim for any of the benefits mentioned above, you must now claim through Universal Credit.
There are exceptions where you would need to claim Housing Benefit, which are if you:
- live in supported, exempt or specified accommodation
- are single and are of pension age
- have a partner and you are both of pension age
- have been placed in temporary accommodation.
If you have a change of circumstances that affects the severe disability premium or any other benefits, report it and you’ll be told what to do next.
