Street Collection licence
Anyone planning charity collections is reminded to apply for a free licence from Cheshire West and Chester Council.
Collectors are advised to allow 24 hours for their application using the form on the Council’s website: https://www.cheshirewestandchester.gov.uk/business/licensing-and-permits/business-and-street-trading-li/street-collection-licence.aspx
Councillor Karen Shore, Cabinet Member for Environment, Highways and Strategic Transport, said:
To collect money or sell articles for the benefit of charitable or other purposes in Cheshire West and Chester, you need a street collection licence. You can apply to licence a street collection or supply a return for a street collection via the Council web site.
The Council’s Licensing Team would normally expect to process applications within 30 days of receipt. With the increased level of urgency to help, applications are currently being processed in 24 hours (Monday to Friday) subject to confirmation that the applicant has also registered their intention to collect with a specific charity.
A licence will provide public reassurance and make it difficult for criminals who are looking to exploit the situation.
Anyone wishing to donate funds, goods and services can view a list of local contacts and collection points on the Council website.
Residents wishing to volunteer support to refugees is advised to contact one of the established local charities that work with refugees and other vulnerable groups:
