Pupil pedal power all year round
It’s Cycle to School Week, and pupils from a local school will now be able to benefit from pedal power all year round with a new cycle shelter, thanks to Active Travel England (ATE) funding awarded to Cheshire West and Chester Council.
A large number of pupils from St Werburgh’s and St Columba’s Primary School in Chester already cycle to school regularly and they are now able to protect their bikes from the weather, thanks to the new cycle shelter.
The Council was awarded funding for a number of projects, including provision for a cycle shelter grant for the school.
To support the funding bid to ATE, the school completed hands up surveys and registered their data into Modeshift STARS. The surveys showed that more than 10% of pupils are already cycling or scooting to school, and over half of pupils would like to.
