Plans for Winsford Town Centre revised in response to consultation feedback
Earlier this summer, hundreds of residents and businesses shared their views on how a new Winsford Town Centre should look and what it should offer.
In the weeks since the consultation closed, the design team has been carefully considering all the feedback to ensure the final plans meet all needs.
The redevelopment moves a step closer today as we are able to share updated plans for phase one of the scheme ahead of submitting a full planning application this autumn.
Residents and businesses told us they wanted to see more restaurants and places to socialise, better quality parking facilities and more indoor and outdoor space for pop-up entertainment events.
As a result, our revised phase one plans include: more hospitality retail units, a better parking environment with gardens and more tree planting, easier links with the rest of the town via improved walking and cycling routes; and a new public square where outdoor civic and entertainment events can be held. In the latest plans Winsford’s cherished war memorial would be a central feature in this new public square, which will offer a better environment for civic events.
Councillor Richard Beacham, Cabinet Member for Inclusive Growth, Economy and Regeneration, said: “Thanks to the many people and businesses who took part in the consultation in June and July. We have received lots of different views and ideas.
“The project team has read through all of the feedback on our initial plans and we are keen for the final full planning application for phase one this autumn to accurately reflect the views people have been giving us. It is important that the town centre meets the needs of people who use the town.
“As a result, our plans have altered to reflect these views and we can reveal plans for phase one today ahead of the planning application being submitted soon.
“We are still seeking the views of residents ahead of the planning application being submitted this autumn and we encourage you to take part.
“This is phase one of the project to revitalise Winsford Town Centre and we will continue to speak with residents and businesses through the next phases so that together we can create a new town centre that everyone can enjoy.”
Ahead of the planning application being submitted, the Council is seeking views on the finer details of phase one of the scheme.
