Grosvenor Museum named one of the North West’s most visited attractions
A major survey by Visit England has placed Chester’s Grosvenor Museum in the top 20 of the most visited free attractions in the North West.
The survey used data obtained for visits to free and paid for attractions from 2022 to 2023 and included responses from over 100 attractions.
Although still down on pre-Covid figures, museums in England overall showed an increase of 20% in visitor numbers, the most visited free attraction was the British Museum, and the Tower of London topped the list for the most visited paid for attraction.
The Grosvenor Museum attracted 58,934 visitors in 2022 and 62,009 in 2023. A significant number of these were school children making the Grosvenor one of the most popular museums for schools to visit in Cheshire.
Welcoming the Grosvenor Museum’s inclusion in the list of most visited free paying attractions in the North West, Cheshire West and Chester Council’s Cabinet Member for a Fairer Future, Councillor Lisa Denson said:
“I am delighted that the Grosvenor Museum is on the list of the most visited attractions in the North West. The museum programmes a wide range of exhibitions and activities for visitors of all ages to enjoy. Our popular schools programme provides a fantastic introduction to Chester’s exciting and vibrant heritage. “A visit to the Grosvenor Museum is a must for anyone visiting Cheshire West and Chester.”
