Councils transforms access at local greenspace in Northwich
Leftwich Meadow, a cherished local green space in Northwich has been transformed by Cheshire West and Chester Council.
The Council successfully secured UK shared prosperity fund (UKSPF) funding, which has been instrumental in enhancing access for the community, allowing more people to enjoy the beauty and tranquillity of the Meadow.
Access improvements include dropped kerbs, accessible gates, improved pathways and new signage into the meadow.
Council officers have worked in collaboration with the Butterfly Conservation, and a key highlight of this project has been the creation of an engaging and educational information panel.
This panel not only enriches visitors’ experiences but also promotes awareness of the vital role elm trees in the Meadow play, as a habitat for the elusive White-Letter Hairstreak butterfly.
The new access routes are now open to the public and visitors are encouraged to explore the Meadow and celebrate its biodiversity.
The Council’s Cabinet Member for Community Safety and Neighbourhood Pride, Councillor Stuart Bingham said:
The collaboration between the Council, local organisations and Butterfly Conservation, as well as the access to UKSPF funding, has provided a fantastic opportunity to improve our communities connection to nature. The upgrades to Leftwich Meadow ensure it remains an accessible and inclusive space for all.
