Construction starts on new Costa Coffee in Winsford
Work has started on the new Costa Coffee in Winsford as part of Cheshire West and Chester Council's regeneration of the town centre. A Costa Coffee will be built at the corner of Dene Drive and High Street, which will offer drive-thru and indoor seating.
Cllr Nathan Pardoe, Cabinet Member for Inclusive Economy, Regeneration and Digital Transformation; Cllr Karen Shore, Deputy Leader of the Council; Gareth Leek, Project Manager with contractor Kier Construction; and Holly Hilton, Apprentice Construction Manager with Kier Construction, marked the start of the works on site.
The Council will hand the unit over in Spring 2024, and Costa is expected to open in Summer 2024.
Contractors Kier began work on the regeneration of Winsford town centre in Spring 2023. As part of the works, the first stage of demolition has now been completed.
The £22.5 million project is funded by the Council and the Government's Future High Street Fund. It is the biggest investment in the town centre shopping area since the 1960s.
The first phase of the Council-led redevelopment scheme includes the demolition of some existing buildings and the construction of new and improved spaces for businesses, with a new 168-space car park with EV charging points alongside improvement to walking, cycling access and dedicated cycle storage.
New open public spaces are being created for exciting pop-ups, events and visiting attractions, with more green space in the town centre than ever before, providing a relaxing and pleasant environment for residents and visitors to enjoy.
The two war memorials will also be refurbished and relocated within a new public square in front of the library.
Nationwide, MyDentist, Coffee House, Caprinos, Hollie&Co., Tur&Co., and Specsavers have all already opened or relocated to new units in Winsford town centre in the past year.
This first phase of works will be complete by the end of 2024. Further phases of development are anticipated as the project progresses.
