Pre-application checklist
Before applying for your licence, please use our pre-application checklist to make sure you have everything in place to ensure that your licence can be dealt with as quickly as possible.
Before applying for a licence, you should also ensure that you have a read through the following:
- a private area is provided solely for giving treatment
- well-lit and ventilated
- internal walls, windows, floors and furniture in good repair, able to be cleaned effectively
- flooring must be smooth and easy to clean
- furniture e.g. couch/bed is smooth and easy to clean
- disposable covering used on couch
- 'no eating or drinking' signage must be in place
- Disinfectant must meet BSEN 1276 or 13697
The wash hand basin must be installed in the treatment room and have hot and cold running water, liquid hand soap and disposable paper towels.
- only single use, disposable, sterile needles and ink caps
- instruments must be sterile or single use
- jewellery used for cosmetic piercing is sterile
- green soap bottles, clean and disinfect daily
A separate sink for washing equipment. If sterilising using autoclave, provide service records, document use, cycles and what happens when a cycle fails.
- consent form, proof of age checks and record keeping
- health questionnaire to screen client's fitness for treatment
- written after care guidance given to all clients
- hepatitis B immunisation records of practitioner
- failed piercing procedure
- risk assessments for all hazards
- fully stocked first aid box
- sharps disposed in BS sharps box
- yellow biohazard bags available for clinical waste
- infection control training for practitioners
- use of hygienic piercing instrument e.g. piercing gun
- separate well illuminated area with washable chair where ear piercing takes place
- wash hand basin with hot and cold water, liquid hand soap and disposable paper towels
