Your bin collection

Further information

Important information about vapes

Both single use and rechargeable vapes must be recycled separately. Vapes disposed of incorrectly can be a fire hazard.

Single use vapes should be taken to your local Household Waste Recycling Centre where there is a dedicated container for vapes or to an electrical recycling point, which can be found in many large supermarkets. Most retailers who sell vapes also provide customers with a service for their proper disposal.

Rechargeable vapes can be disposed of by separating the battery from the device. The tank can be disposed of in your black household waste bin. The battery should be put out for collection separately in a sturdy box or plastic bag along with any other small electricals or taken to a battery collection point which can be found in major retailers and supermarkets that sell batteries

Important information about textiles

As part of the future service, significantly damaged unrecyclable clothing, textiles and shoes will still be collected at the kerbside, but these should be left in your black household waste bin. Please consider if this really is the best option for your unwanted items or if reuse or recycling options are available. More information can be found on our textiles page.

Flats and apartments

If you live in a flat or apartment bin stores are provided for residents to dispose of their recycling and waste. You can help by:

  • making sure the bin store is clean and tidy
  • ensure all waste is put in the bins provided
  • do not leave waste on the floor or on top of the bins
  • use the correct containers

These properties will also move to the new service. Each property will receive information on how to use the service when the new communal bins are delivered.

Bulky items

Residents should not put any bulky items into or around the bin stores. These items will not get recycled by the collection crew.

Large items can easily be collected from your home by using our bulky item collection service. Furniture and electrical items are collected by Changing Lives together for reuse or recycling where possible. More information can be found on our bulky item collection page.

Recycling process

The new recycling collection vehicles are specially designed with two separate compartments, your blue lidded bin is emptied into one side and red lidded bin the other. The collected materials are taken to Cheshire West Materials Recycling Facility (MRF) in Ellesmere Port.

Your recycling is sorted by a machine to separate the different types of materials before they go off to be recycled. More information about how these materials are recycled can be found on our Recycle First pages. Find out how materials are recycled.
