Safer Routes to Schools
Safer Routes to School is a series of practical steps to improve children's safety on the school journey. The project has benefits for both the school and the wider community and is successfully achieved through a range of schemes both on and off the highway: The safer routes to school programme is funded through the local transport plan and is divided into three major areas of work:
- Highways infrastructure improvements identified through school travel plans
- Area wide programmes, including: school hazard warning light improvements and school crossing patrol sites
- Improvements to school transport and associated infrastructure identified through school travel plans
The safer routes to schools programme will continue to target funding towards infrastructure improvements highlighted by school travel plans. To find out more about safer routes to school schemes and enquiries about how to start a scheme for your school contact the School Travel Team.
